Community Awareness Initiatives: Business Preparedness Workshops

Tsunami Preparedness talk

Dr. Gerard Fryer of the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) gave an informative presentation regarding the science of tsunamis and how the PTWC provides forecasting.

In each of the years 2012 and 2013, the Pacific Tsunami Museum (PTM) hosted the Tsunami Preparedness Workshop for businesses, community, and family preparedness in conjunction with the Hilo Downtown Improvement Association. The workshop typically includes presentations by staff from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), Hawaii County Civil Defense, Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, and by a workplace safety consultant, Stafford Oyama, who oversees a group activity session on business preparedness. Topics include protecting employees and customers in the business setting, protecting irreplaceable business assets, and learning about the threat of tsunamis.
