Community Awareness Initiatives : Tsunami Awareness Month

April is tsunami awareness month, and in 2014 PTM participated in a number of relevant activities.

April 1
There were opening ceremonies at the Shinmachi Memorial. Dignitaries and survivors gathered to remember those lost in past tsunami events.

April 2
PTM participated in the very moving ceremony at Laupahoehoe Peninsula, where students and teachers died in 1946.

April 4
PTM opened its doors on the evening of first Friday, offering free admission.

Story festival image

April 6
PTM held its 12th Annual Story Festival "Waiakea Town… Revisited".  In addition to interactive exhibit displays, there were moving stories, a State Civil Defense presentation, and recognition of poster contest winners.

April 19
A Tsunami Awareness and Emergency Response Fair was held by State Civil Defense near Wailoa Park, where PTM had a booth.

April 23–26
The Annual Merrie Monarch Craft Fair was held at the Civic Auditorium. PTM interacted with the public by means of a tsunami awareness table.
