Talk topic will be the 1946 April Fools Day Tsunami. \nSaturday\, April 6th – Book signing appearance by Tammy Yee\, illustrator of Tsunami Quilt book and the Baby Honu; accompliced by book reading by Docent Dian; free entry to Kama’aina (Hawaii Residents) \nThursday\, April 11th – Once in a lifetime Presentation by Dr. Alison Thompson. Dr. Alison Thompson\, a dedicated humanitarian\, has received prestigious awards such as the Dr. Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award and the “Woman of Peace” award. She served as a first responder during the 9/11 attacks in NYC and founded the non-profit Third Wave Volunteers (TWV)\, which has grown into a global network of over 30\,000 volunteers. Following the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami\, she co-founded a Community Tsunami Early-warning disaster Center and a children’s learning museum in Sri Lanka. Alison has worked with diverse communities worldwide\, from indigenous tribes in Colombia to victims of wildfires in Maui. She will be giving a presentation at the Pacific Tsunami Museum on April 11th\, with limited seating available. Dr. Keliikipikaneokolohaka was born and raised in Waiakea\, Hilo\, Hawai’i and has been an educator in various contexts for over 20 years – including being the creator of the oil or chant for the Pacific Tsunami Museum. \nEvery Sunday from 10am – 12pm- Photo Scanning Days “Help us digitize local history! Bring in your photos taken in tsunami associated areas (Hilo\, waiakea\, etc) (people\, events\, landmarks\, holidays\, and more) and let us scan it for our digital collection. We’ll give you back the original and your image will become a part of PTMs photographic record of our community. This talk is part of the Pacific Tsunami Museum’s 30th Anniversary Tsunami Talk Series\, commemorating three decades of educating and raising awareness about tsunami preparedness and resilience here at the Pacific Tsunami Museum \nProgram is suitable for age 13 and over. All children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver. \nAnyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication\, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program\, service\, or activity should contact library staff as soon as possible. DESCRIPTION:April is Tsunami Awareness Month!\n\n\nOn April 6th from 9am to 4pm\, we’re thrilled to offer FREE admission for Kama’āina (ID required). \nTammy Yee (Children’s book author\, illustrator\, and origami / paper model designer) has worked on more than 40 books. She grew up in Hilo\, Hawaii\, where she explored tide pools\, swam in streams\, and wrote and illustrated spooky stories her teachers politely read. Having children rekindled her love for picture books\, so in 1994 she exchanged her stethoscope for a paintbrush and she’s been writing and illustrating ever since. In 2022\, she was inducted into Children’s Literature of Hawaii’s (CLH) Hall of Fame.  \nTammy Yee 📘🎨 will be available for book signing and talk story from 10am – Noon.
