Full Event Description

The tsunami warning on Tuesday, July 29th generated enthusiastic community interest – so much so that our website experienced overwhelming traffic as people sought immediate information!

Now it’s time to transform that experience into a deeper understanding.

This brown bag lunch discussion brings together tsunami science experts to provide clear, practical answers to the questions raised by our recent experience. Whether you’re curious about the science behind tsunami warnings or want practical preparedness strategies, all questions are welcome.

–  How scientists observed and analyzed incoming data after the earthquake occurred
–  The key differences between Tsunami Warning, Advisory, and Watch alerts
–  Why earthquake depth and location matter for tsunami risk assessment
–  Practical preparedness strategies for individuals and communities
–  Understanding how energy travels through the ocean after tsunamigenic earthquakes
–  The science behind wave behavior and coastal impact predictions
