Take Home: Participants will take home their crafted Big Island map and a packet of volcano powder to recreate the eruptions.
Program Description: Fall Break Workshop, join Keiki Labs at the Pacific Tsunami Museum, where keiki will learn about island formation, dive into volcanoes, enjoy fun with edible lava, and uncover Hilo’s history!
What to Expect:
Craft Your Own Big Island – Learn about Hawaii’s volcanic history and agriculture while making your own Big Island map using air clay. This activity beautifully connects real volcanic phenomena with fun science reactions.
Fizzy Volcanoes & Sweet Eruptions – Dive into the world of acid-base reactions. Formulate your own fizzy volcano powder and feel the cool sensations as you taste sweet eruptions!
A Guided Tour of Pacific Tsunami Museum (PTM) – Meet Cindi, the president of the PTM for insightful stories.
