The Shape of Story: Storytelling Workshop with Alicia Upano

September 12 @ 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Join Hawaiʻi novelist Alicia Upano for The Shape of Story, a generative writing workshop exploring how patterns in nature, namely the stages of a tsunami, can give structure to a story of fiction or nonfiction. The workshop includes a brief lecture, writing prompts, and discussion, followed by a drinks-and-pūpū reception.

Upano is the author of Everything to the Sea, a Hilo-based novel published nationally this summer and available at Basically Books.

Storytelling is at the heart of the Pacific Tsunami Museum, which has collected more than 700 oral histories of tsunami survivors since its founding in 1994. Survivor stories teach communities, showcase resilience, and save lives.
